Sermon 08 March 2009

"What Garments Are You Wearing?"

Sunday Morning
Richard Hildreth

This week Pastor Hildreth spoke on Christ being our Savior.

The text was from Matthew 22 1-14

Some key points from the sermon

  1. We must not only be hearers of the word but doers of the word.
  2. God's people believed they were waiting for The Messiah, but when He came they rejected Him.
  3. People paid no attention to the invitation to a good thing, and instead turned to that which was of temporary value.
  4. The United States of America is based on Judeo-Christian values.  If we choose to ignore God's invitation bad things may come to us.  Pastor said that with such moral lapses as homosexual marriage and abortion, if God does not punish us He would have to apologize to Sodom.
  5. All armies are the Lord's.
  6. When the chosen people rejected him, God opened up the way to Salvation to anyone.
  7. God clothes us in Righteousness and Praise.  If we have not accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as our savior, we are like the man thrown out because he was not wearing the wedding clothes
  8. We should wear the garments God provides for us.
  9. God does not send anyone to hell.  One sends one's own self to hell with the choices made.

Sunday Evening

Sunday evening, Mark, the Cartoonist, gave a wonderful testimony about how God had delivered him from a life of addiction, and is renewing his life.  It was titled "Are You Ready?"  He used the text from 1 John 2:15-16.  We must be ready to witness, to do that which God leads us to do; and to stand before God and any time.  Praise the Lord.  Thank you, Mark for the message.
