Sermon 22 February 2009

"A Snapshot of Servanthood cont."

Sunday Morning
Richard Hildreth

This week Pastor Hildreth continued his series on servanthood.

The text was from John 13:1-17

Some key points from the sermon

  1. Important instructions are given last. Jesus left instruction to serve.
  2. We have a responsibility to the LORD and to our fellow man that we demonstrate the heart of God.
  3. Jesus washed Judas' feet, even when he knew Judas would betray him.  We can not let the possibility of people hurting us to keep us from serving.
  4. Servants are not to be confused by the master's strategy.
  5. We serve to reflect Christ, not nust for social value; that which is done for flesh has no eternal value.
  6. Christ has transformed Christians so that God sees the Christian through the blood of Jesus Christ.
  7. A rebuke, a correction is an act of love if done with a heart of love.
  8. God does not want anyone to go to hell.
  9. Our relationship with Christ is caught, not taught.  It is more effective seen than spoken, so we must make sure our words are backed up by our actions.
  10. The righteousness of God is revealed step by step.  Even the best of students don't connect all the dots at one time.
  11. We will always grow if we are willing to look, listen and respond.
  12. Holiness is by the action of the heart, not by rules or regulaitons.
  13. It is not because I served, but because of who served me first.
  14. All are called to be servants
  15. We must know full well that an act of service is not always received the same way for everyone.  We must not try to put God in a box.  We must instead let God prompt us to the correct action.
  16. All servants of Christ are called to be servants to all.
